A message from Moj Takandi, Owner
My name is Mojgan Takandi, but for simplicity please call me Moj.
I am an Iranian-American currently living in Nashville, TN. I have been around the Hand-knotted Persian rugs
all of my life. As a child growing up in Iran, I was always been fascinated with them. Few people realize that it takes four
people from dawn to dusk for six months to weave a 7 x 10 feet rug.
It is extremely tedious and at the same time, very challenging to be able to weave rugs with different color yarns, patterns,
design and materials.
As a child I always wanted to be able to weave and at the age of 17, I was able to get my parents permission
to finally take a weaving class. I immediately fell in love with the process and needless to say this went on for
four years until I received my weaving licence from one of the famous rug masters in Iran. His name among rug
experts in Iran is synonymous with quality, delicacy and design.
It is appropriate to acknowledge his name here, Master Oustad Resam Arabzadeh.
Under his direct supervision, I have made several rugs which are all displayed in my mother's home in Iran. I
hope to someday bring them here and display them in my house in Nashville (if I can ever get her
to apart with them). I would like for both of my daughters to eventually learn how to weave and, more
importantly, to appreciate the art of weaving.
I was born in Iran and learned the ancient art of hand-knotting rugs as a girl.. So, I have an intimate knowledge of the quality of
rugs I see and I purchase for clients.
I arrived in the United States in 1999. For 11 years as I have traveled this country and visited many homes, I have been
distressed to see the shoddy work of machine made rugs that pass as works of art in homes of all sizes and price ranges.
I recognized that the cost in the United States for Persian rugs put finely crafted rugs out of the reach of all but a
select few people. It need not be that way. I have decided to do what I can to bring the art of hand-knotted rugs to Americans
and make it possible for others to enjoy what we enjoy in our own home. My hope is that, by dramatically reducing the cost of
rugs from my country, homes in Nashville will now be able to showcase the art of Persian rugs and our friends here will
benefit from the true beauty of a hand-made rug. Not only that, but we will be giving families an opportunity to pass along an
heirloom to their children in the future. Machine made carpets are not something a family can or would pass through generations.
The rugs we offer are of the same, or often better, quality of the ones that designers buy for clients in fancy rug galleries in
the most affluent parts of Nashville.
My business is transparent. We help you to understand more about Persian rugs and what makes them special and we
encourage our clients to pursue more study, research and comparison shopping so that they feel really good about the
investment they are making. If you would like to know more about the history of Persian Rugs and learn about the weaving
process, tool used, or materials used and get a sense of what makes the Persian Rugs better than any rugs in the world, I will
be delighted to talk with you.
Although it is unusual in the Middle East for a woman to be a business owner, I am proud to do this in Nashville and pleased
that I can help other women create a sophisticated and beautiful ambiance in their homes..
Please call or email me and schedule a private time to view the rugs I have in inventory. I can also work with you and your
designer to get a specific rug (color, family of origin, size) that fits your needs.
Please look at my current inventory and more importantly look at my prices. You will be surprised to see how much money
you will save by buying directly from me. The majority of my customers are actually rug dealers and resellers and I am
delighted to work with these professionals as well.
Enjoy the site. If you do not see the rugs you like or want, please feel free to e-mail me.. I am constantly working on adding to my inventory.
Rug weaving classes to be offered
I am also in the process of setting up classes for those interested in learning the art of weaving. If you would like to learn to weave your
own
personalized Persian Rug, please email me on the “contact” page and you will be put on a list to be contacted for upcoming classes .
Again thank you and I hope to see you soon.
